Burgess Park has turned over a new leaf! Join us on Saturday 21 July for a fun packed day of

sports and activities for all ages and register for summer holiday clubs and courses.

The activities have been categorised into three sections

• Sports and healthy living

• The Big Dig: Food growing and gardening in Burgess

• Arts, crafts, culture and under fives

We look forward to seeing you on Saturday from 11am!

 

Sports and healthy living

Activity: Seven Sports Challenge

Time: 12 noon to 3.30pm

Location: Registration: Chumleigh Plaza Burgess Park Sports Centre, Addington Square Tennis

Courts, Lynn Boxing club

Age/Notes: Five to 18. Permission required from parents and guardians for participating minors.

Description: Burgess Sports runs a seven sports challenge offering free 15 minute coaching and taster

sessions provided by different sports clubs:

• Boxing - Lynn Boxing Club

• Rugby – Southwark Tigers RFC

• Football – Greenhouse, Los Latinos, United Allstars FC

• Tennis – Southwark City Tennis Club

• American Football – The Renegades

• Angling - Burgess Park Angling Club & Catch 21 Angling project

• Cricket – Burgess Park Colts

Register for the challenge at Chumleigh Gardens. Medals will be awarded to those who take part.

Activity: Dr. Bike

Time:10am to 2pm

Location: Chumleigh Plaza

Age/Notes: All ages.

Description: Bring your bike in for a check up. Dr. Bike can work on your brakes, replace gear and

brake cables, index gears, fix punctures and pump your tyres.

Activity: Bikeability

Time:11am to 2pm

Location: Chumleigh Plaza

Age/Notes: Children who have learnt to ride a bike. Bring your own bike.

Description: Bikeability is cycling proficiency for the 21st century. The three level courses are designed

to give the next generation the skills and confidence to ride their bikes on today’s roads. Register on the

day for lessons taking place during the summer holidays.

Activity: Healthy rides with Southwark Cyclists

Time:10am to- 4pm

Location: Chumleigh Plaza, LB Southwark

Age/Notes: Over 16 unless accompanied by an adult and proficient in road cycling.

Description: Bring your bike and go for a healthy bike ride led by Southwark Cyclists. Rides will be on

the hour from 10am and each ride will last 50 minutes.

Activity: Go Fish! Angling taster sessions

Time: 11am – 4pm

Location: The lake (near Cobourg Rd)

Age/Notes: All ages. Under 16s must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Training provided on a

first come first served basis.

Description: Come and have a go at fishing with qualified Catch 21 angling coaches. Learn about the

the fish and birds in and around the lake with the Burgess Park Angling Club & Catch 21 Angling

project. Funding provided by the Environment Agency.

Activity: Burgess Park Fitness Trail

Time:11am to 1pm and 2pm to 4pm

Location: Starting point for the trail is at the southeast corner of Burgess Park, near the junction of St

Georges Way and Sumner Road.

Age/Notes: All ages

Description: Learn how to use the Burgess Park fitness trail equipment safely and brush up on your

technique with qualified Southwark Sports and Fusion instructors.

Activity: Cheerleading and Street Dance workshops

Time: Performance 3.15pm, cheerleading: 3.30, Street dance:4pm

Age/Notes: Six to 12 years old, street dance: all ages

Activity: NHS Health Check Service with Southwark PCT

Time: 11am to 5pm

Location: Chumleigh Plaza

Age/Notes: Strictly 40-74 year olds who live in Southwark or have a Southwark based GP.*

Description: NHS Health Check Service - free of charge health screening service for the public. The

NHS Health Check includes a blood pressure, cholesterol and diabetes test. Weight, height and

BMI are also measured. Each client receives a tailor-made, healthy lifestyle advice session and a free

gift! * The Service cannot see clients who have a previous diagnosis of high blood pressure, diabetes,

heart disease, kidney disease or stroke.

Activity: Adventure Playground

Time:11.30am to 4.30pm

Location: Adventure playground on Albany Road

Age/Notes: Five to 15

Description: Climb, swing and fly in Burgess Park’s own adventure playground, challenge your friend to

a game of table tennis or pool or try your hand at some arts and crafts

Age/Notes: Eight to 16 years

Description: Come along and test out your driving skills and learn how to maintain a go-kart.

Activity: Gardening with the Burgess Park Food Project

Time: 11am to 5pm

Location: Information stand at Chumleigh Plaza, Activity at Glengall Wharf Garden

Age/Notes: All ages

Description: Join the Burgess Park Food Project for some guerrilla gardening and hands on activities in

Glengall Wharf Garden, a new community garden in Burgess Park.

Activity: Gardening and Horticultural tour at Chumleigh Gardens

Location: Polytunnels at Chumleigh Gardens

Age/Notes: All ages

Description: Join our head gardener for some planting for the park. Learn how to compost, use basic

tools and enjoy a horticultural tour of Chumleigh Gardens. Find out how you can get involved in a

range of environmental, horticultural and food growing activities so you can have a part in growing

Burgess.

Activity: Pimp your Wheels Workshop & Curious Parade

Times: 11am to 1.30pm Drop in ‘Pimp my Wheels’ workshop

2pm to 2.30pm: Join the Curious Bike Parade

3pm to 5pm: Drop in Curious Fayre workshops and fun activities

4pm: ‘Curious Bike Parade’ Awards

Location: Art in the Park Building in Chumleigh Plaza

Age/Notes: All ages especially families, children and young people.

Description: Bring your bike, push-chair, shopping trolley, scooter (anything with wheels) to Art in the

Park’s Pimp your Wheels workshop! Artists will help you customise your wheels. Then join the Curious

Parade around Chumleigh Gardens from 2pm. We’ll be giving awards for the best and most creative

‘pimped wheels’.

After the parade you can visit the Curious Fayre, where there will be lots more fun creative activities

happening. Come and find out more about the art workshops Art in the Park runs for children and

adults and sign up for their summer / autumn programme.

Description: The DIY Happiness game has been designed and developed to inspire people to

incorporate more ‘actions for happiness’ into their lives and to share their experiences so we can learn
